2211 - MULTICULTURAL/INCLUSIVE EDUCATION

The Board of Education believes that multicultural education is a vital importance to the process of the development of students and staff, the achievement of harmony within our community and the stability and success of our nation. The school curriculum, instructional materials and professional development should reflect an inclusive perspective. The goal of an inclusive perspective is to help students understand themselves and others, and appreciate and value similarities and differences in all people.

The Board believes and declares that:

  1. infusion of specific content throughout the District's curriculum will promote acceptance, understanding, cooperation, and appreciation of diverse groups of people;

    It challenges and rejects all forms of discrimination in schools and meets the demands of present and future society.

  2. staff should receive professional development training which will enable them to foster understanding, acceptance, and positive relations among people of different backgrounds.

A philosophy of education that supports the above can only be developed through a total school and community commitment toward providing students with educational experiences that will prepare them for leadership in the future.
